Money Savings Monday

I am having a Money savings Monday.
I have stayed home all day with no plans to leave the house, it is crappy weather out there anyhow.
All eating and cooking with food from home.
I hung a load of towels and a load of jeans to dry on the lines in the basement with a fire in the wood stove.
My DH is cooking a big turkey today, and all meals for the week will be planned around using it up. It is a 21 pound turkey and our family consists of 2 adults and two young boys.
I am clipping coupons from inserts my DMom saved for me.
My DH is changing the oil in the truck himself.
My DH is in charge of snow management today, saving a ton of money not hiring some one to do it.
My Dkidlets and I are going to make up some healthy snacks for the week, using food stuff we have already at the house.

I am thinking of hosting a Money Savings Monday here every week, but not sure how to go about the linky thing and how well it would go over, so if you have any advice, thoughts or ideas please leave a comment.

I will take pictures of the cookies I get in return.

Simple Saturday!

Hi all!
I have been working a lot of extra hours at the store, one of the girls took a few days off, so I will enjoy a bigger check next payday, TG. I am having a hard time coming up with the mortgage this month. Things are REALLY tight, but with no unplanned spending we will be able to make it within the ten day grace period!!

I went to town yesterday after work, I got a ton of groceries in the house which is a good feeling! I did go by a thrift store and bought two blouses for myself for a total of $1.57. and I bought a grab bag for $5. There was 4 left, toys and stuff they said. So I picked one of the two boy bags. I have a hard time buying things site unseen, but it turned out to be most excellent! There was a digital camera in it Joel asked for one from Santa, it is sealed in the package and with a $59 price tag on it from Walmart so everything else is bonus. There is also a watch set that DH will get. and a few other things I will pass on to MIL for gifts for her tribe of kids she has. I also plan to put a few things away for Noah's birthday in Feb!!

Other then that no new news from here we are staying home and enjoying each others company. The boys are playing the recorders which makes me twitch but they are having a ball and that is what is important.

I plan to have a crafting bonanza with the boys Sunday including baking 6 dozen cookies for my cookie exchange.

have a good safe weekend everyone!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Last night I went to the Thanksgiving eve worship service. It gave me a LOT to think about, how many blessing I receive everyday and don't thank the Lord enough. So, I am making it a point to thank God for my blessings today and everyday. Thank you God!

I hope every one has a great Thanksgiving day and remember to give thanks!

My Journey to Christmas

Usually by now I am completely done with Christmas prep! This year we have had so many changes in our lives and it shows, I have just about nothing done!! so I am challenging myself to do one major or semi major thing a day. That way I should be done in the nick of time, but without major stress or burn out.

I am starting Friday, I work from 11-5. I plan to sign our names to all of our Christmas cards, and start addressing them.

Frugal Saturday fun

Today, the boys and I took a tiny road trip to Lowe's for the free Build it and Grow workshop. They made wooden car garages and if you know anything about my boys we could NOT miss that workshop.

We brought a cold pizza leftover lunch, went to Menards to get some ski gloves that were on sale BOGO free, I bought two pairs and got two pairs all for $7.98!! And an entrance mat for the mud room $2 after rebate. Then to Kohl's to use my $5 off coupon, Joel picked out a clearance shirt that is ScoobyDo. Then to Micheal's to use my 40% off coupon, the boys picked out a craft kit to do later this week, I bought a 2010 pocket calender and colored feathers for the next 4H meeting, spending $8 total.

Then to the Y for swimming, the boys swam for about 3 hours, I went in the hot tub and sauna besides swimming. We all took showers, saving propane at home for heating water.

Then at home I cut the boys hair , the were raggamuffins for far to long.

FUN, FUN frugal day!!

Mid-August update!

It has been awhile since I have written. We have had a busy fun summer. I can feel autumn in the air! Which makes me sad and a bit glad. Glad because fall means settling down into a comforting routine and a new beginning so to say. Sad, because winter in all it's harshness is coming and too quickly!

We have had a very fun summer filled with a bit of camping and day road trips and the fair. I started a part time job, my first full day is tomorrow, I am very excited to be working out of the home for the first time in over 10 years, but it is still only part time which is the best of both worlds for me right, now. DH is still unemployed but keeping busy. We are repping the benefits of a small garden, and a bigger chicken coop. He has all the winter's wood here just needing to be split and stacked.

I am going to start to make my entries on my blog a little more regular.

Summer is half over :(

While the weather in the UP has been very chilly compared to past years, we have had a pretty fun summer so far! My oldest DS and I just got back from 4H camp. While it was completely exhausting, it was the BEST!! Both of us promised to return next year. We also have a few more fun things scheduled. But also got back on track with our semi-homeschooling summer plans.

My DH is still unemployed, but we may have some good news lurking in the near future. If you could send good thoughts or prayers our way, it sure would be appreciated. He has been busy collecting the winter's wood and fishing. Although we have had NO fish dinners lately, we sure should stay warm all winter. He has also kept himself busy by planting a small garden. His next project is to build on the the chicken coop, as the babies are nearly ready to be evicted from the basement. I am sick of the "barnyard" smell in the basement!

The boys have been busy also this summer. The oldest is done with summer school and 4H camp. The youngest enjoyed three whole days of uninterrupted Daddy time. Next on the schedule for the entire family is a full day for a 4H fun trip and VBS early next month.

I have been busy gaining about 20 pounds back over the last 3-4 months, so I am on diet mode AGAIN!! Trying to eat more fruits and veggies and watching portion control.

I also have a new hint for the YouData program. I just took a bunch of little surveys about me, to inform them of the ads that would interest me. I made 85 cents TODAY, and had been only making 12-25 cents a week previously! Here is my referral link if your interested in YouData

I hope to start posting more regularly. Thanks for reading!!

June 2 a little update

Last night I went coupon shopping. I got 3 free easy mac.
I went to a Tupperware party last night. I walked a way with so many freebies, I was giddy. I won a bingo game and won a great set of three bowls, then the little bowl for attending the party. Then I booked a party, so I got a tiny bowl key chain(so cute!) and a reusable shopping bag.

In the mail I got Aveeno and Dove shampoo and conditioner samples, they went right into the camper.

My boys have been lazing around so much lately, with DH home we have NO routine established, it is getting on my nerves a bit. But DH is going on a male bonding camping trip with his cousin :) After he leaves, the boys and I will do a couple lessons in math and about 30 minutes of reading. And finally turn off that darn tv!!

I made a big breakfast this morning of pancakes and sausages. I made a double batch of pancakes and threw about 30 pancakes in the freezer for later use. This is the only bit of OMACing I have done in a while. I am still going on my pantry challenge, since I have not heard from the food stamp office at all. I am sure thankful that I started with a loaded pantry and freezers or we would be hurting right now.

so I failed again!

so sorry if anyone even reads this! My DH got laided off one month ago to the day. So things have changed and changed a lot. He is looking for work but of course there is none to be had, we are not in total panic mode yet.

I got myself a little part time job cleaning a house for some one I know. I hope to expand the hours as we go. I have also started taking a few cake orders from friends and family, in hopes to raise a few bucks.

I have done pretty well with my pantry challenge, but have not post the details, sorry. I have applied for medicaid, and food stamps also so that may be another route of writing for me. I surely am glad that we are not starving because i has been a good 3 weeks since I applied and no word yet.

I am also taking a course to become a medical transcriptionist starting about 2 weeks ago as well so lots of news from here.

OH also we 'won' ok, well the kids won two gold fish last night so they are our household new creatures. We orders 6 baby chickens today also, so I am excited to have new babies on the property!!

that is about it for now.

Pantry challenge 4-28

Well it has been a few days,so I will update. On 4-26 we had to run our eldest son, age 9 to the walkin clinic 68 miles away, he had strep throat but feeling better. We stopped at taco bell, for a total of $5.98 for four people, over budget but not by much.

On Monday we had left overs of the chicken enchiladas(which were shit food btw!) for a total of $3+

Tuesday, my life changed a bit, my DH lost his job, downsized and his position was terminated. There was NO notice at all, we honestly thought we would never be in this position again, no income, no future legacy to pass on to our children. I hope and pray that we will be ok. He will get a severance package and unemployment but as a single income family, I am in complete panic mode!! and for the pantry challenge, now it looks REALLY important! We had hot dogs 88cents, buns $1.02 and baked beans $.92 for a total of $2.82. but NOT the most nutrious meal ever! but good comfort food.

May's Pantry Challenge

During the month of May I am going to do a pantry challenge. With another additional feature, I am going to try to keep the cost of each dinner meal to $5 or under.

I picked up my SHARE order today and I can NOT fit anymore food in the freezers, all three of them. I am going to start my challenge a week early, TODAY! Tonight we are going to have Stouffer's Chicken Enchiladas with cheese sauce and rice, with cauliflower. My calucalations for the cost of this meal is $7 for the Stoffer's dinner and 78 cents for the cauliflower BUT it will serve us TWO Meals so $7.78 divided by two is $3.89 for a dinner for 4 :woot not bad for the first day of my challenge.

Breakfast OAMCing

Today I spent a few hours in the kitchen making up a boat load of waffles, pancakes and muffins for the freezer. I cook them all up and layer on a cookie sheet, with wax paper(recycled cereal bags) in between the layers then freeze for about an hour. Then I package them all in a recycled bread bag. When the kids want a snack(or Momma is having a lazy morning) for breakfast, I take 2 out and pop them in the toaster, and serve with syrup.

UGH! Today I turn 40 years old

I am not why, but it seems like such an unbelievable feat. Me turning 40. I am kind of depressed about it, but I should be proud of what I have accomplished. I decided that I am going to be depressed about it and proud later ;P Just wanted to post about my mixed feelings.
